A simple answer to the question about volunteering is that I believe that the Internet is a better place when everyone participates. A more specific reason is that I encounter abbreviations all the time, yet writers often assume that everyone else knows what a given acronym is; an assumption that is not accurate. A site like this one can help clear up confusion where acronyms are concerned.
