  CSFS for me stands for Cervical Spinal Fusion & Stenosis. I had this surgery 12/30/15 after being diagnosed with Cervical Stenosis (bone spurs (or narrowing of the inner core of the spine), which grow as you age and rub against spinal nerves, in my cervical/neck bones causing my entire right (dominant arm) to go almost completely numb... had to quit work due to this (was a bartender) AND I also had a bulging, dehydrated (desiccation) due to aging in my case, (almost 45 y/o) and was told my C5 disc is at risk, will eventually need replacing but was not necessary at the time. HA! I'm wondering as almost 13 months later I'm still suffering intermittent but severe neck pain, causing back spasms I didn't know existed let alone could be so painful. Anyway, a degerated disc at C6, in my neck, in the same area as the Stenosis, was removed (discectomy) and replaced with a cadaver bone, which there are other options to replace the disc (plastic, gel, etc) but as my surgeon explained and suggested, actual human bone fuses with my own body faster and easier as they are actual human parts of the body. Since it's not an organ there are no issues with rejection, only infection, should one occur. Then they placed a regtangular steel (stainless or titanium, can't remember) vertically on my spine, to hold it all together (fusion is supposed to then occur over the next year. In March, was still in a great deal of pain, mobility issues and they not only wanted me to start physical therapy 3-5 times a week like that, they wanted to keep me on the pain meds for at least another 6 months. I have suffered from opiate (pill) addiction previous in my life and despite the possible risks, I refused both. I never abused them but had been on them for 6 months and know all about the slippery slope one can go down. Weaned myself off of them and by 1st or 2nd week of April I was off the completely. And I did on my own. Suffered tremendous amounts of stress from about May to present and my therapist says it's likely the reason I'm still having pain... but the muscle spasms all down my back, excruciating sometimes, likely all stress related. I do need to go back and have an xray done, see if the fusion took. I don't even know. But I suppose it's time.
