The ISPCC was founded as a successor to the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, which had operated in Ireland from 1889 to 1956.The first Irish branch of the NSPCC was founded in Dublin in May 1889, with branches founded in Cork and Belfast in 1891.
